Born in Missouri in 1887, Chester R. Longwell became a Yale educated geologist who did significant fieldwork and research in the desert wilds of Clark County. Nininger was a renowned meteorite researcher and collector who as Curator of Meteorites from 1930 to 1946 made the Colorado Museum of Natural History, now the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, a center of scientific activity in that new field of study.
